College Application Portfolio Consultation

Would you be interested in scheduling a one-hour consulting session to go through your portfolio as it is now and then discuss the remaining college requirements to form a plan of action? Assignments may be given to get you started on the required types of drawings. Future consulting sessions may be scheduled to go over the new drawings, to be sure you are on track or if you need help. I usually meet with my students only once a week, do some drawing in-class plus give "homework", and meet again the next week. For a portfolio development, I first meet with the high school senior and go over the college(s) entrance requirements for the portfolio. We discuss the types of projects still needed to be completed to fulfill the requirements and how to go about doing so. Then we can meet on an as-needed basis as the student does the artwork and comes back for feedback, help, and suggestions. I do not require you to commit for any certain number of lessons. I want you to feel comfortable in getting the help you need, at your own pace, as you need it. I am also flexible as to the lesson time. I have both daytime and evening slots available. Any time you would like to start, we can set up an appointment.

Summer Art Lessons

Private art lessons are available in Raleigh, NC. Sarah B. Douglas, professional artist and an experienced art teacher for all ages, is available to teach one-on-one art lessons or small group art classes. No commitment to a certain number of art classes is required. Lessons are pay-as-you go. Several time slots during the day and evenings are available. The art classes are designed for students who desire to learn basic drawing and painting techniques and skills. The art lessons are for "fine art" development versus craft-type classes. Open to students of any age. Basic materials needed to begin include: 9x13 or larger sketchpad, drawing pencils in 2H, 4H, HB, 2B, 4B, and a kneaded eraser.

Kids’ Art Lessons

Lessons designed for kids ages 6 to 18 who desire to learn basic drawing and painting techniques and skills. Lessons are private/semi-private and can be scheduled from my home studio. Payment is due at each lesson. No commitment required for a certain number of lessons. Materials needed to begin: 9x11 or larger drawing paper pad, drawing pencils in 2B, 4B,HB, 2H,and 4H, set of colored pencils, and a kneaded eraser. Most parents wait in the living room during the lessons and do work or read. Some drop the kids off and come back. I am fine with either arrangement. Also, if the kids would like to bring some samples of artwork they have done, it would be helpful in accessing their levels and likes.

Art Lessons for Adults

Private, one-on-one art lessons for adults are available throughout the week at my home studio. I am very flexible as to dates and times. Most of my students schedule their art lessons from week-to-week in order to accommodate their schedules. The first time we meet, I will evaluate your art work and tailor a personalized program for your interests, goals, and skill-level. My specialty is teaching first-time art students or those who desire a refresher course. In the privacy of my home studio, the student is able to develop their skills until they wish to join a group art class or some other program. My goal is to give everyone the confidence and basic skills level to be successful in their art. Basic drawing skills is my specialty! And one-on-one art lessons have been ideal for those who want to brush up on their drawing techniques before taking on painting. “Arty-Party”- great for birthdays, moms-day out, mother/children time

The below rates are for a group of 4 or less.

1) Family-rate drawing lesson. $75.00 total for one hour of instruction and students' drawing time learning a series of fun see-and-draw techniques. Students provide their own drawing paper and drawing pencils.

2)"Watercolor Arty-Party" $150.00 total for 2 hours of step-by-step drawing and painting instruction in watercolor. I provide the Arches watercolor paper, paints, etc. needed to complete an 11x15 watercolor landscape (such as a wooded pasture scene in the fall or a winter snow scene).

3) "Acrylic Arty-Party" $150.00 total for 2 hours of step-by-step drawing and painting instruction in acrylics. I provide the canvas and paints to complete an 8x10 or 11x14 acrylic landscape (such as a lighthouse scene).

I can email you a gift certificate to print out to give to your guests.
